Carlos is dedicated to helping workers suffering from mesothelioma and their families.
Carlos is the son of immigrants. His father worked the fields throughout the Southwest from childhood through high school, served honorably in Vietnam (receiving a Purple Heart) and spent 35 years in civil service until retirement. His mother is a naturalized citizen who worked her way up from a secretary and a bookkeeper to become the executive director of a legal aid clinic, helping their community gain access the courts and legal system.
After law school, Carlos moved to the Bay Area in 2001and began his long career fighting the asbestos industry. In the decades since, he served as litigation and trial counsel for countless mesothelioma clients and their families, including going to trial and assisting in obtaining jury verdicts in numerous cases. As a law clerk, Carlos helped represent a former Northern California construction project estimator exposed to asbestos-cement board, resulting in a $11,500,000 verdict. The next year, Carlos was an associate on the trial team that won a $20,000,000 verdict for a 42-year-old mother of twins against the manufacturers and distributors of asbestos products found in the plaintiff’s childhood home. Countless cases and other trials followed. In 2012, Carlos helped obtain a $5,550,000 verdict against John Crane, Inc. for a C&H Sugar plant worker and his domestic partner (whom the jury also awarded $1,000,000 in damages). Throughout his career, Carlos has helped his clients obtain hundreds of millions of dollars collectively to assist their families and to give dying workers peace of mind in their final days.
From 2023 through early 2025, Carlos served the People of the State of California as a Deputy District Attorney then Sr. Assistant Deputy District Attorney in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, during which time he was appointed the Interim Head of the Consumer, Environmental and Worker Protection Division. He returned to MRHFM in May 2025.
Carlos is licensed to practice law throughout the State of California, including in the Northern and Central U.S. District Courts.
Carlos is happily married and the proud father of three sons (including twins) with whom the sun rises and sets. Every day, he strives to make them and his parents proud and their sacrifices worthy.
